KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A reclaimed coal mine in Kanawha County could soon become the site of a $350 million renewable energy project, bringing new jobs and millions of dollars in tax revenue to the region.

MN8 Energy and Google announced plans Wednesday for Mammoth Solar, an integrated facility that will focus on solar energy and battery storage.

The project is expected to create construction jobs and generate millions of dollars in property tax revenue for Kanawha County.

Mary Green, a consultant for MN8 Energy, said, “Those jobs will be in construction, as well as once the site is operational, there will be some part-time and full-time positions in terms of caring for the property.”

Construction on the site is set to start in 2027 in Cannelton, just off Bullpush Road.
