🏆 Could you submit a nomination for the 2026 Brownie Awards if you only had a little more time?

Well, extension granted! Due to popular demand, the deadline for preliminary nominations for the 2026 Brownie Awards has been extended to Friday, September 11, 2026.

Dedicated to the rehabilitation and revitalization of sites that were once contaminated, under-utilized, and undeveloped, the Brownie Awards, which are produced by SiteMedia (parent company of Environment Journal) and the Canadian Brownfields Network, provide annual recognition of brownfield work in Canada. These renewed residential, commercial and park projects are proven to contribute to the growth and resilience of healthy cities and communities—and the growing brownfields community is a reflection of that.

This year, the Brownie Awards are introducing an exciting new category—REMOTE—which recognizes outstanding initiatives in remote, rural and Indigenous brownfield projects.

There are eight Brownie Award categories and a simple two-step process to make nominations easier:

Step 1: Preliminary Nominations – due September 11, 2026

The preliminary nomination only requires a brief project outline (maximum 350 words) describing how the project meets the criteria for the selected award category.

The judging committee reviews the submissions and announces a shortlist of projects before the end of September.

Step 2: Detailed Submissions – due in early October

Shortlisted projects move to the next step of providing a detailed submission and additional information about the project.
