Queensland has scrapped plans to electrify its bus fleet in favour of hundreds of new diesel buses, the latest in a series of climate policy rollbacks following decisions to scrap renewable targets, extend the life of coal-fired power plants and halt reporting key emissions data.

The state has begun a competitive tender process to buy 630 diesel buses, to hit the road in mid-2027, dumping the former Labor government’s plan to replace the diesel vehicles with a locally made battery-powered fleet.
