Death Row Records has spent more than three decades shaping hip-hop culture. Now the Snoop Dogg-owned label has put its name on something considerably different: cannabis genetics.

Death Row and Dutch cannabis seed bank Sensi Seeds have brought five jointly developed strains to the U.S., extending a collaboration that made its European debut in spring 2025. The collection marks the first time Death Row Records cannabis genetics have been made available to American home cultivators.

The five are called B-Funk, Dough Boy, Studio Candy, Caramel Pineapple and Cereal Killa.

It’s a partnership that makes more cultural sense than the combination of “record label” and “seed bank” might initially suggest. Cannabis has been intertwined with hip-hop for decades, while Snoop Dogg has been one of its most visible advocates throughout his career. Death Row itself remains one of the defining names in West Coast rap.

Sensi Seeds brings a different kind of history to the project. Founded in the Netherlands by Ben Dronkers in 1985, the company celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2025 and describes itself as the world’s oldest cannabis seed bank. Its catalogue has included strains such as Northern Lights, Jack Herer, Skunk #1 and Afghani #1.

The Death Row collaboration emerged through Sensi Seeds’ Breeding Grounds initiative, which brings breeders together to share genetics and develop new varieties.

Death Row Records head grower AK worked with Sensi Seeds on the five strains, combining the company’s four decades of breeding experience with Death Row’s connection to music and cannabis culture.

“Music and cannabis have always been two of my favorite things in life,” AK said. “So I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to bring two of the most legendary labels in music and cannabis together with Sensi Seeds and Death Row Records.”

That connection has already been taken directly to cannabis audiences. The collaboration received attention at Mary Jane Berlin, where AK appeared at the Sensi Seeds booth alongside Shaggy, Snoop Dogg’s personal sound engineer and cannabis sommelier.

Snoop himself has also put his stamp on the collection.

B-Funk arrived in the U.S. collection with an early advantage after becoming the bestseller from the collaboration’s European release.

The partnership adds another unexpected branch to the Death Row story. Founded in the early 1990s, the label became synonymous with West Coast hip-hop through releases from Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Tupac Shakur and others. Snoop acquired the Death Row brand in 2022, bringing one of the most recognizable names in rap under the ownership of one of its most famous alumni.

Since then, Death Row’s identity has stretched well beyond its original record catalogue.

The cannabis project takes advantage of a connection Snoop established long before corporate partnerships became commonplace in the legal cannabis business. His relationship with cannabis has been embedded in his music and public persona since the beginning of his career, making genetics a particularly natural extension for the Death Row name.

For Sensi Seeds, the collaboration puts four decades of cannabis breeding alongside a globally recognizable piece of music culture.

The result is one of the stranger crossovers between hip-hop history and cannabis breeding, and also one of the easiest to understand. Death Row helped define the sound and imagery of a period when cannabis became increasingly visible in mainstream rap culture. Sensi Seeds was developing cannabis genetics through those same decades.

Now those histories have produced B-Funk, Dough Boy, Studio Candy, Caramel Pineapple and Cereal Killa, five names that sound almost as though somebody discovered a long-lost Death Row track listing.
