Team truck drivers arrested after Illinois troopers find pallets of cannabis weighing 5,800 pounds during I-80 stop

A truck driver and co-driver were arrested in Illinois after troopers located several pallets of cannabis products during a traffic stop.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m. on September 4, 2026, Illinois State Police (ISP) conducted a traffic stop on a semi truck traveling on eastbound I-80 near LaSalle.

During the traffic stop, an ISP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau trooper searched the truck’s trailer and located “multiple pallets of suspected cannabis and cannabis products, weighing approximately 5,858.4 pounds.”

ISP arrested Mahmoud B. Bazrouk, 41, of Norridge, Illinois, and Haed O. Samham, 45, of Harwood Heights, Illinois, without incident.

The LaSalle County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Bazrouk and Samham with Cannabis Trafficking, a Class X Felony.

The team drivers were held at the LaSalle County Jail pending their first court appearance.
