US Stock Market Today: S&P 500 Futures Edge Lower As Inflation Concerns Resurface
September 1, 2026
US stock futures are slightly weaker this morning, with E-mini S&P 500 contracts down around 0.1%, as investors react to higher long term interest rates and fresh signals on inflation. The 10 year US Treasury yield is holding near 4.7%, after Federal Reserve official Kevin Warsh said inflation has not slowed meaningfully. That matters because higher borrowing costs can pressure mortgages, car loans, and valuations for growth stocks. At the same time, the Chicago Business Barometer slipped to 47.1 in August, pointing to softer factory activity. The key question now is whether higher rates hurt economically sensitive sectors like manufacturing and real estate more than they cool inflation and support financial stocks.
With bond yields pressing higher and inflation data mixed across regions, some investors are shifting focus toward sturdier balance sheets and cash flows, using tools like 45 high quality undervalued stocks.
